Federal Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has said that she is happy that the National Assembly has approved the PEMRA (Amendment) Bill 2023.
Maryam Aurangzeb in a message on the social media website Twitter said that I am happy that the Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting of the National Assembly has approved the PEMRA (Amendment) Bill 2023. I presented this bill in the National Assembly yesterday.
The Federal Information Minister said that the Pemra Bill has been prepared after extensive consultation with all the stakeholders over the last one year, these stakeholders are part of the Joint Committee, which includes PFUJ, PBA, Amand, CPNE and APNS.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that all the stakeholders were taken on board and their information and opinions were incorporated in the bill, the bill was finalized after signatures of all the stakeholders, I would like to thank the Joint Action Committee for their active participation, time, effort and valuable input in the preparation of the bill.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that the main objective of the bill is to improve the welfare of journalists and enable a free, responsible and ethical media environment in Pakistan as practiced in democratic countries around the world.
He further said that he will hold an important press conference to inform about the salient features of the bill and the details of the extensive participatory and consultative process for its preparation.
